Mustangs fall to the Panthers

B Game: Memorial battled back in the fourth quarter, but in the end fell short of the victory. Patrick Henry used a stifling half-court defense to keep the visitors in check. The Mustangs scored nearly half of their points in the 4th quarter, but Patrick Henry was able to score themselves to secure the win.
Coach Hoegh says: "This team had a great season, so it's too bad we couldn't have ended on a better note. I really liked our style of play, and I look forward to watching these guys play next year as well."

A Game: Memorial was defeated by Patrick Henry in an entertaining second game between the two teams. Both played very well offensively, and the Panthers used a couple of banked threes to take an eight point margin at halftime. The Mustangs fought back in the third quarter, pulling to within three points before the home team held on for the victory.
Coach Hoegh says: "Our guys gave it all they had today, and it was a fun atmosphere to be a part of. I hope these guys continue to improve together, just as they have in their first year of representing our school on the basketball court."

Mustangs outlast Wolverines

B Game: Memorial defeated Whittier 39-13 in the first contest of the night. The Mustangs held a slim 5-point margin heading into the second half, but they pitched a 10-0 shutout in the third quarter to build a comfortable lead. Offensively, the charge was led by Jakob L and Jackson Cl in the second half.
Coach Hoegh says: "We played awesome team defense in the second half, and that led to some easy buckets on the other end. Hopefully we can stay that aggressive in our final game of the year on Tuesday."

A Game: The Mustangs pulled off a thriller in the second game, winning in overtime by the score of 39-36. Memorial led for the majority of the contest, but Whittier made a late charge, primarily using the 3-point and free throw lines. Clutch free throws from Memorial in overtime ended up being the difference.
Coach Hoegh says: "It feels great to win a close one like this. We need to take care of the ball a little better, but our guys fought hard through that. The last game on Tuesday should be fun."

Memorial sweeps Edison

B Game: After trailing for most of the game, the Mustangs took control late to defeat the visiting Wildcats 40-29. In the third quarter, Memorial turned a six point deficit into a two point lead in the span of about 40 seconds. The outstanding run was aided by full court pressure, two three-pointers from Logan Y, and a steal and layup by Jackson C. Memorial never looked back after that, and Jayden S hit several shots in the 4th to extend the lead.
Coach Hoegh says: "Our wheels were spinning in place for awhile, but then we got things going in a hurry. Sometimes it's just one or two plays that can completely change the outlook of a game, and we got those in the third quarter."

A Game: Memorial used a sustained, balanced attack to get revenge on Edison, winning their second matchup by the score of 46-39. All ten Mustangs scored in the entertaining contest. After finding themselves down 27-23 at halftime, Memorial held Edison to just 12 points in the second half to pull away.
Coach Hoegh says: "Every one of our guys played to their strengths today. This was a fun game to be a part of. We were really good in all phases of the game -- offense, defense, and rebounding. That's the best game we've played all year, so we're peaking at the right time."

Mustangs fall at O'Gorman

B Game: After holding slim margins after each of the first three quarters, O'Gorman came back to defeat the Mustangs by one point. Much of the damage in the second half was done at the free throw line where the Knights had a significant advantage, scoring half of their points at the charity stripe. Carter H and Logan Y led the Mustangs in scoring in their first loss of the season.
Coach Hoegh says: "This one was tough to see slip away. They took advantage of us not finishing as well as we usually do, and we had some key players go down to injury or foul trouble. Every loss is an opportunity to get better though, and I expect us to do that."

A Game: Memorial fell in the second game by the score of 44-32. The Mustangs outscored their opponents in the first and fourth quarters, but were undone by a 3rd quarter run by the home team. Coby N did much of his scoring in the first half, while Nate V picked up much of the scoring load in the 4th quarter. The contest was the only one of the season between these two teams, as the first game was cancelled.
Coach Hoegh says: "The Knights did a good job of making free throws to keep us from getting back into it at the end. I was really impressed by Mason M's post defense against a much taller opponent, and Calen B had some really strong takes to the hoop. Austin P and Jackson C played some great team defense today as well. I'm proud of how we hustled for all 24 minutes of the game."

Mustangs Win Two at Whittier

A Game: Memorial defeated Whittier 57-34, bolstered by some red-hot shooting in the first quarter to establish control. Nine different Mustangs scored in the contest, led by Evan W with 17 points. Memorial also won the rebound battle, despite having to play some smaller lineups due to injury and foul trouble.
Coach Hoegh says: "Jackson C, Max E, and Austin P did a great job of taking care of the ball and getting us in the right spots. Nate V had some tough calls go against him, but he was very productive as well. Hopefully we can continue to shoot the ball as we did tonight."

B Game: The Mustangs used a balanced scoring attack to down Whittier 52-23. Logan Y led the way with 9 points, while Carter H and Manny T aided a strong team rebounding performance. Memorial grew their lead early, and they held the opposition to just eight points in the first half.
Coach Hoegh says: "Trey R and Jonathan S finished some impressive plays on the offensive end. Jayden S was in attack-mode, too. This team plays really hard, and sometimes it's that simple in basketball. We need to be aggressive like that for a big game coming up on Friday."

Memorial splits at home versus Patrick Henry

A Game: The Panthers used physical play and a couple of desperation heaves to down the Mustangs in their first match-up. After several lead changes in the first half, Patrick Henry used a couple of three-point plays to extend a lead that they never relinquished. The Mustangs got some strong offensive output from Jackson R, Peyton R, and Coby N.
Coach Hoegh says: "They are a physical team, and our guys didn't back down. Gus and Peyton showed some of the toughness that our guys are made of. We needed a couple of breaks to go the other way in this one, but it's up to us to put the work in to get those in the future. It was fun to watch them compete."

B Game: The Mustangs went for a wire-to-wire victory in the B game, winning by 14 in the end. They flexed some defensive muscle, holding Patrick Henry to just 22 points. Hunter VB and Luke B led the team in scoring, while Jakob L and Jack B got some huge rebounds for Memorial.
Coach Hoegh says: "We never did hit our full stride, but the outcome was great. We probably played our best defense, and I haven't seen this team rebound as well as it did tonight. That's what carried us, I thought. I'm looking forward to two more games that we have this week."

Memorial Battles Edison

A Game: The Mustangs fell victim to a game-winning shot with four seconds left in the first game. It was a well-fought game, and the lead switched hands multiple times throughout. Coby N scored a clutch go-ahead basket on a turnaround jumper off of the glass with 6 seconds left, before Edison completed an over-the-shoulder catch and twisting layup for the game winner. The Mustangs smartly pushed the ball ahead for one last contested shot, but it didn't go.
Coach Hoegh says: "It was fun to watch our guys compete and play so hard today. Evan and Coby did a great job of defending their most talented player, and we definitely matched the home team's energy. We played our best game of the year so far, and all of the guys contributed to that effort. We just needed one more little play to go our way, and that happens sometimes. Our guys know that, and they can't wait for our next chance."

B Game: The Mustangs pulled off a dominant, wire-to-wire victory in the second game of the night. Memorial used pressure defense to stifle the opposition, causing several turnovers that led to easy baskets. The scoring in the B game was well-balanced, and the Mustangs were able to gain a comfortable rebounding margin over Edison.
Coach Hoegh says: "We've got a really aggressive team that loves being on the court with each other. Harris L and Mason O came out with a ton of energy, and the rest of our guys followed suit. Luke B had a couple of nice J's that opened up things for us inside. This was a nice win."

Mustangs split with Brandon Valley

A Game: Memorial went on the road to Brandon and fell to the home team, 32-22. Both teams started strong offensively. The Lynx continued their hot shooting in the second quarter to take control of the game. The Mustangs battled back in the second half, but they were unable to complete the comeback.
Coach Hoegh says: "We're going to be in a lot of games where it just takes a few important stops and some shots to go down, and we didn't quite get those tonight. It can be easy to point fingers at others when you lose a game, but this team isn't going to do that. We get to go to work, as a team, and try to get better for our next one."

B Game: The Mustangs defeated the Lynx in a tight game, winning by a score of 30-22. Brandon Valley got off to a quick start, but Memorials depth was a factor in chipping away at the lead. Despite having a size disadvantage in the post, Memorial controlled the paint late in the game to maintain a slim margin in the 4th quarter.
Coach Hoegh says: "This was a great win. It was good to see our team rise to the occasion late in the game. I saw the confidence - in ourselves and each other - grow as the game went on. Hopefully that continues for the rest of the season."
