Mustangs fall to the Panthers

B Game: Memorial battled back in the fourth quarter, but in the end fell short of the victory. Patrick Henry used a stifling half-court defense to keep the visitors in check. The Mustangs scored nearly half of their points in the 4th quarter, but Patrick Henry was able to score themselves to secure the win.
Coach Hoegh says: "This team had a great season, so it's too bad we couldn't have ended on a better note. I really liked our style of play, and I look forward to watching these guys play next year as well."

A Game: Memorial was defeated by Patrick Henry in an entertaining second game between the two teams. Both played very well offensively, and the Panthers used a couple of banked threes to take an eight point margin at halftime. The Mustangs fought back in the third quarter, pulling to within three points before the home team held on for the victory.
Coach Hoegh says: "Our guys gave it all they had today, and it was a fun atmosphere to be a part of. I hope these guys continue to improve together, just as they have in their first year of representing our school on the basketball court."

Mustangs outlast Wolverines

B Game: Memorial defeated Whittier 39-13 in the first contest of the night. The Mustangs held a slim 5-point margin heading into the second half, but they pitched a 10-0 shutout in the third quarter to build a comfortable lead. Offensively, the charge was led by Jakob L and Jackson Cl in the second half.
Coach Hoegh says: "We played awesome team defense in the second half, and that led to some easy buckets on the other end. Hopefully we can stay that aggressive in our final game of the year on Tuesday."

A Game: The Mustangs pulled off a thriller in the second game, winning in overtime by the score of 39-36. Memorial led for the majority of the contest, but Whittier made a late charge, primarily using the 3-point and free throw lines. Clutch free throws from Memorial in overtime ended up being the difference.
Coach Hoegh says: "It feels great to win a close one like this. We need to take care of the ball a little better, but our guys fought hard through that. The last game on Tuesday should be fun."

Memorial sweeps Edison

B Game: After trailing for most of the game, the Mustangs took control late to defeat the visiting Wildcats 40-29. In the third quarter, Memorial turned a six point deficit into a two point lead in the span of about 40 seconds. The outstanding run was aided by full court pressure, two three-pointers from Logan Y, and a steal and layup by Jackson C. Memorial never looked back after that, and Jayden S hit several shots in the 4th to extend the lead.
Coach Hoegh says: "Our wheels were spinning in place for awhile, but then we got things going in a hurry. Sometimes it's just one or two plays that can completely change the outlook of a game, and we got those in the third quarter."

A Game: Memorial used a sustained, balanced attack to get revenge on Edison, winning their second matchup by the score of 46-39. All ten Mustangs scored in the entertaining contest. After finding themselves down 27-23 at halftime, Memorial held Edison to just 12 points in the second half to pull away.
Coach Hoegh says: "Every one of our guys played to their strengths today. This was a fun game to be a part of. We were really good in all phases of the game -- offense, defense, and rebounding. That's the best game we've played all year, so we're peaking at the right time."

Mustangs fall at O'Gorman

B Game: After holding slim margins after each of the first three quarters, O'Gorman came back to defeat the Mustangs by one point. Much of the damage in the second half was done at the free throw line where the Knights had a significant advantage, scoring half of their points at the charity stripe. Carter H and Logan Y led the Mustangs in scoring in their first loss of the season.
Coach Hoegh says: "This one was tough to see slip away. They took advantage of us not finishing as well as we usually do, and we had some key players go down to injury or foul trouble. Every loss is an opportunity to get better though, and I expect us to do that."

A Game: Memorial fell in the second game by the score of 44-32. The Mustangs outscored their opponents in the first and fourth quarters, but were undone by a 3rd quarter run by the home team. Coby N did much of his scoring in the first half, while Nate V picked up much of the scoring load in the 4th quarter. The contest was the only one of the season between these two teams, as the first game was cancelled.
Coach Hoegh says: "The Knights did a good job of making free throws to keep us from getting back into it at the end. I was really impressed by Mason M's post defense against a much taller opponent, and Calen B had some really strong takes to the hoop. Austin P and Jackson C played some great team defense today as well. I'm proud of how we hustled for all 24 minutes of the game."
