B Game: Memorial fell just short in the first game. It didn't look there'd be much of a game at all until midway through the 3rd quarter, when the Panthers of Patrick Henry held a commanding 24-10 lead. At that point the Mustangs charged back, and they came within three points before the home team solidified the win.
Coach Hoegh says: "I'm very proud of the way our guys fought back. That was a great comeback that showed how tough we can be mentally. This group had an outstanding season with some memorable moments and games, and that includes tonight."
A Game: Patrick Henry hosted Memorial in a match-up of two teams with just one loss - a contest that would decide which one would have the best record in the city. The Panthers got out to a hot start, and Memorial found themselves down by 8 to 10 points for most of the first three quarters. Memorial took command in the decisive 4th quarter, turning a nine point deficit into an 8-point victory.
Coach Hoegh says: "That was something else. It was probably the biggest game of the year, and our guys came through when it counted the most. Every single one of our guys made a huge impact in the game. It was great to see our guys play so well together - their best ball of the season - when they could easily have gotten down. Resiliency is such an important quality, and Memorial had it tonight. I had a great time coaching these players - on each team - and I hope they have success for the rest of the school year."

Mustangs notch two more victories
B Game: Memorial was able to defeat Whittier 48-15 in the first game. The Mustangs were able to establish a large edge in several facets of the game, including rebounding and turnovers. It was the last home game of the year for the Mustangs, and the win extended the B Team's winning streak to six games.
Coach Hoegh says: "We got a lot of guys involved offensively, and had some really good ball movement. Diante and Cole led us in a huge scoring 2nd quarter. We have one more game, and our plan is to play as hard as we can to get that last game."
A Game: The Mustangs stayed hot in the second game, defeating Whittier 51-36. The team used a balanced scoring attack and a dominant 3rd quarter to put the game out of reach. Nine different Mustangs scored in the contest.

We'll need to do the seemingly 'little things', like setting good screens, boxing out, eliminating turnovers, etc., in order to win our last game on Monday. B Game: Memorial used a dominant start to defeat Edison 46-21 in action on Tuesday night. Many Mustang players were at their best in their second-to-last home game of the season. Ten different players scored in the game, and the defense refused to give up easy shots.
Coach Hoegh says: "We really came out of the gate well, and I think that was due to our emotional leaders on the team. Everybody was ready to go. I hope we can continue to peak as the end of the season draws near."

Memorial sweeps season series with O'Gorman with two more thrillers
B Game: In the first game of the night, the Mustangs used a huge 4th quarter to take the game by a final score of 23-20. Memorial scored most of their total points in the decisive frame. Alex D and Kyle G paced the team in scoring, but the whole team contributed to the victory.
Coach Hoegh says: "We got a little too comfortable with a small lead in the first half, and failed to put the "pedal to the metal" when we could have. Then, in the second half, we played the aggressive game that we need to play. Our guys came through when it counted."
A Game: The Mustangs prevailed in dramatic fashion in the second game, downing O'Gorman 66-63 in triple overtime. The game went back and forth for the game's entirety, and each team had to overcome late deficits at different times (regulation and the overtimes) just to stay alive. Austin B scored 22 points to lead the team offensively.
Coach Hoegh says: "Holy cow... that was crazy. This game featured some awesome stuff. Kaedyn B made a huge coast-to-coast layup to keep us alive in the first overtime. Austin B obviously had a clutch game. Davis J played about as well as anyone could have played - defending several positions, scoring, rebounding - he did it all. We needed the huge efforts that we got from everybody tonight. That was heart-wrenching and fun at the same time."

A Game: Memorial notched a win in the opening game by a wide margin. It was the first time that the teams had met this season, and the Mustangs took control from the get-go. Offensively, the visitors were able to get what they wanted, when they wanted it.
Coach Hoegh says: "This can be a tough place to play, but our guys were ready to go as usual. Thane H set a good tone for our offense, and Isaac N continues to play really good, consistent basketball. We have another game on Friday, in another challenging place to play. It should be fun."

Memorial charged back in the 3rd and 4th quarter, coming within four points, but could not finish off the comeback. The two teams meet again in the last game of the season.
Coach Hoegh says: "The poor start hurt, and we lacked some intensity in the beginning. I am proud of how we came back. As I told the guys after the game, losses will make teams worse or they can make them better - it's our choice. If we point fingers at others, we'll get worse. If we come together as a team, there's no question in my mind that we'll be better because of it.

Memorial splits with visiting Brandon Valley
A Game: The Mustangs defeated the Lynx 53-47 to take the first game of the night. Fans of offensive basketball were not disappointed with what they witnessed at Memorial's gym as both teams hit shot after shot in a true basketball battle. Memorial had a slim lead after each quarter of play, and then took control of the game late in the 4th quarter. The opposing team hit six three pointers, many of them with a high degree of difficulty, but the Mustangs were strong enough to answer each time.
Coach Hoegh says: "This was a fun, physical game. They hit some really tough shots and so did we. Our posts took control on the offensive boards, and our guards really ran the show nicely at the end."
B Game: The visiting Lynx won the second game of the night, 26-22. The athleticism and will of both teams led to an intense contest. It was the second in three games that the B Team played in a game that went down to the wire.

A Game: Memorial got out to an early lead and never looked back, winning the game 54-13. The wide margin was the result of stifling team defense which led to many fast-break opportunities. Ball movement and unselfish play also helped the Mustangs pull away.
Coach Hoegh says: "Our guys were really fun to watch today. They were scrappy on defense, and Piercen E made some awesome passes. Plays like that get everybody involved, and that's when we're at our best. Austin B did a solid Kevin Love impression, too, scoring and rebounding like he did. As always, we still need to get better at some facets of the game, and our guys know that. We'll be looking forward to our games and practices next week."

Mustangs win first two games with style
Memorial began the 2012 slate of games with O'Gorman, coming out victorious in the A and B games.
A Game: After a quick start, the A team found themselves behind by three at halftime. They found their stride offensively in the second half, and pulled away from the visitors at the end to win 42-35. Aluong K. scored all of his 12 points in the second half, and the Mustang squad got some key steals at the end to ensure victory.
Coach Hoegh says: "We definitely showed some mental toughness and grit to pull this one out. I thought Kaedyn B gave us a real spark defensively that we all needed. This was a fun one, but there are some things we need to improve on before our next game. We plan on doing just that."
B Game: The second game of the night was a see-saw battle that featured multiple lead changes in the 4th quarter. The Mustangs won the game 33-31 on a go-ahead three-pointer from Kyle G with only 5 seconds left. Memorial got key contributions from many players, and executed some great plays during a wide open game.

Mustangs earn a split at Whittier
A Game: Memorial went across town, and came away with a 43-34 victory at Whittier. The home team got out to a fast start, while the Mustangs struggled to find a rhythm. They found it late in the 3rd quarter, and it continued through the end of the game. The win pushed the Mustangs to 4-1.
Coach's Comment: "I was wondering if we were ever going to turn the corner. We were quite stagnant on offense in the first half, but then we started getting the shots we wanted later in the game. Nathan D. did a good job of icing the game with free throws, and we all did a great job of eliminating second chances on defense."

Mustangs fall in first meeting with Patrick Henry
A Game: The Mustangs dropped their first game of the year, falling to Patrick Henry at home. Patrick got out to an early seven point lead, and was up by five at the half. Memorial got as close as three in the 3rd quarter, before Patrick pulled away once more.
Coach's Comment: "I thought we really played well for the first two-and-a-half quarters. We got some good looks that just didn't go through the hoop, and I think that the score affected how we played later in the game -- something that won't happen for the rest of the year. I still feel like we can beat anyone we play, and I'm glad we'll get the chance to play them later in the year."

B Game: After getting out to an early lead, Memorial lost to Patrick Henry 37-25. The momentum gained from the fast start was not sustained by the Mustangs in the second half. The game featured several runs for both teams, and Patrick took control in the 4th quarter. The Mustangs were led in scoring by Jackson P, who finished with 10 points.
Coach's Comment: "We really played well in the first quarter. It's too bad that we didn't take care of the ball as well for the rest of the game, but you can credit Patrick's defense a lot. We're going to learn and improve from being in this game, and I can't wait for our next one."
